Wish List

The human contribution is the essential ingredient. It is only in the GIVING of oneself to others that we truly live.

GIVING opens the way for receiving.

Prayer is not a substitute for work, thinking, watching, suffering, or GIVING; prayer is a support for all other efforts.

In GIVING, a man receives more than he gives; and the more is in proportion to the worth of the thing given.

THE SAINT THERESE CENTER FOR HIV AND AIDS

If ever there was a place where miracles happen, it is at this center. During the time I volunteered there, it was such a joy - It was like working in a miracle factory. I am sure there are plenty of miracles hidden away in their files, because I saw people improving and getting better. I suppose if someone doesn't get up and walk out of a wheel chair spontaneously it's not considered a real miracle, but I don't see it that way - It's still a miracle to me even if it takes a few days.

Sometimes, people come in, and the very next week they would say "You know that terrible pain I've had in my muscles for the last two years, well all of a sudden it's gone". Other times it would take a few months to see a remarkable improvement. Sometimes I would run into a client at the hospital and they would stop me and say, "What did you do? Since you started working on me, I feel like I've been healed!" And I would say, "It's actually the one who lays on my table that is the healer. And I m so glad you showed up ".

I always take an aura photo upon meeting every new client - that gives me a window to his or her soul. It enables me to look past the wheel chair, or their open wounds and sees what was really going on. Also it lets me see improvement over time.

There were days at the center that Father Joseph would catch me in between massages, and ask me if I happened to have any baby furniture because there's was a client in the office with two babies and nowhere but the floor for them to sleep on. And while we were still discussing what could be done, someone would walk up and say "Father Joseph, there is a guy here with a truck load of baby furniture and wants to know if we could use it." When something like happens, it's a miracle to me - and that kind of thing happens every day - and sometimes twice a day - at the center. After a while, you'd think that one would get used to it, but it always took me by surprise. Reminders that the universe was working with me always do.

I m not saying that we never cried at the end of a bad day - We all do that when we are working with that level of struggle and illness. But I guess that s what keeps you grateful, too. My husband David always stuffed some extra money in my pocket on the days I went to the center, saying, "I know Father Joseph is going to need to buy something extra today, and I know you hate it when you can't help."

These are the kinds of miracles that are needed to keep the center going. And these are the kinds of miracles that you can help make happen.  Please be an angel, and make a miracle happen today.

Often a client will be in need of something that we just don't have or can't get. Wal Mart carries just about everything anybody needs so being able to give a client a Wal Mart certificate to cover the cost of the needed item is almost as good as as having that item in our inventory.

  • Donations of $10 gift certificates from Albertson's, Vons, or Smith's Food King
Clients who are infected, and families of clients under the age of 18 who are affected, are able to get $10.00 a month certificate to Albertson's or Von's or Smiths supermarkets. This is to supplement the dry food pantries that are currently available. With these certificates clients are able to get fresh vegetables, fruit, and dairy products. If you'd like to contribute more, you can donate any number of the $10 gift certificates.
